NOMTW- I was so excited to hear those first few bars of the song and the monkeys! The ensemble rocked this song! Even on the cast recording I get chills went they sing, the "No one Mourns the Wicked" as Glinda sings the really high notes and it was no exception last night. I loved her "Well this has been fun" and her faces after she's asked if she and Elphaba were friends. She also got like no entrance applause except for me. The audience was pretty dead last night.
Dear Old Shiz- I was one of maybe 3 or 4 people that clapped for Stephanie's entrance. Annaleigh made a great face when she sees Stephanie for the first time like "What/who is that" and she kind of turned away. When Steph and Annaleigh found out that they were going to be roommates, Steph yelled out "oh no"--I can't quite describe. It was a pretty great moment.
WaI- I was a little skeptical about Miriam not singing a note but it really worked. Miriam's "not now" was, for lack of a better word,fierce
One word: Incredible I was in awe of the whole song it, like a lot of her songs in the show,was seriously made for her. This was the closest I have ever sat so seeing her facial expressions made it that much more amazing. At one point in the song she stood so close to where I was sitting and I was in awe. As Shoshana said she is a brilliant interpreter of song..seriously.Her last note was amazing!!
WiTf- It was awesome having Annaleigh stand right there. Her "describe" was a little off but it was still great. Steph's faces were priceless. I love when Steph mimics Annaleigh's voice during "your voice". It was perfect. Stephanie and Annaleigh have such great chemistry. Steph's boo was hysterical and at the end Annaleigh mouthed "That wasn't funny" but it was lol
SB- It was fine. Stephanie was great.
DTL- Pictures do not do that man justice. He is beautiful. Anyways, he and Steph had great chemistry right off the bat.I loved the way he said "Maybe the driver saw green and thought it meant go" He and Annaleigh had great chemistry as well. During the beginning of the song, Annaleigh was looking at his butt. It was pretty funny especially with her face. He's a great singer but I thought his dancing was kind of compromised because of it. Ben was adorable--I felt so bad for him when Annaleigh brushes him off. Annaleigh and David came and stood really close to where I was sitting so I kind of missed Stephanie's dance..well that and there were a couple of cast members in the way. Annaleigh's "May I cut in?" was adorable. Stephanie had this face like "Fine let's see YOU do better"
Popular- Hysterical. When Annaleigh is telling her secret she jumped on to Steph's bed so far over that she (Steph) had to get off of it. Annaleigh patted the seat where she wanted Steph to sit which was cute. Annaleigh looked so dejected after Steph's first secret. Her "Look it's tomorrow" was hysterical--I almost died laughing. I noticed that Steph took off her glasses and repositions them so I guess its easier for Annaleigh to take them off. She did this back bend thing at one point which was pretty funny. The lip-smacking is an inspired addition to the song--was she the first to do it? The toss-toss was hysterical. After she does it Annaleigh makes this like "ooh" noise and when Steph did it it sounded like something was dying. It was really funny. I loved her "Hello" at the end.
INTG- Perfection. Not really a whole lot to say other than that. Except that she and David are adorable together :-)
One Short Day- Does Steph always drop the card that she was given by Morrible? Anyway she and Cristy were really cute together. It was sad to see Boq get so upset. Steph's intonation during "Yes I heard" was priceless. Back to OSD, the ensemble was great during this song. I love their harmonies at the beginning of the song. Steph and Annaleigh knocked it out of the ballpark.
A Sentimental Man--It was fine. I was getting ready for "Defying Gravity" so I wasn't really paying attention. Though I did notice that Lenny got no entrance applause. Oh Miriam's "If you do something for him he will do much for you" (was that right) was so dirty! Or maybe that was just my mind.
Defying Gravity- Ah I had chills when they started the music as they enter the attic. This scene is such an emotional roller coaster for me. I was expecting Miriam's "Wicked witch" to be fiercer than it was but that's ok. Stephanie, Stephanie Stephanie. It was quite a different experience for me seeing it up close since I sat in the nosebleeds the first time around. Loved her riff during "cost". She was just incredible. Her "she had nothing to do with it" was chillingly perfect. Her second "Defying gravity" was brilliant as was her " down and" "ahhh"
Intermission--Nothing too exciting lol
TG- Ok what does Annaleigh say after David says “ That wasn’t how you described to me” She said it so quickly that I missed it. It’s funny cause I used to hate this song but then I saw it live and had a new appreciation for it. Her “I miss her too” was heartbreaking I definitely felt for them. Annaleigh’s voice is perfection especially when she hits the high note at the end. Her facial expressions as she was singing after Fiyero left were heartbreaking as well.
WWoTE- Cristy was fierce! Her acting was spot-on. She has an amazing, amazing voice. Steph’s “Well there’s no place like home” was perfect. Her chanting was also beautiful. I felt kind of bad for Nessa when Boq says that he wants to leave her. Nessa’s reaction was chilling and she and Stephanie sounded great together.
Wonderful- It was great. Stephanie’s facial expressions made the song. Lenny was great as well and worked really well with Miriam.
INTG (Reprise)- Gorgeous. Annaleigh sounded perfect.
ALAYM- The song I was waiting for pretty much the entire show since its my favorite song in the show. HOT HOT HOT. I’ve seen Julia/Seb, Steph/ Derrick before and this was BY FAR my favorite version of this song. David and Stephanie’s chemistry was off the chart. Their kiss after her solo was adorable. David’s voice shook me to the core in the best possible way. Someone here had written that it was David’s song and it was. During the “Wake up my body” line Steph took David’s arm and put it around her waist—it was kind of hot. They sounded so, so incredible together. I love her take on this song.
Cornfield Scene—I loved Annaleigh’s delivery during her first line. She said, “Just follow that one road” –pause- “the whole time” It was really effective. Steph was really intense during her “Then what would you call it line” as well as her “wonderful” line. She was basically intense during the whole scene. Annaleigh’s “Yes I do” was hysterical she said it with a country-like accent but she slowed it down a lot. I was kind of not paying attention to the rest of the scene because I could see David standing off stage on a chair waiting for his entrance lol.
NGD-Woah Stephanie knocked it out of the park. She was really scary. I got serious chills—this was her song. Julia’s version was great but Steph kicked it up a couple of notches. Her “Fiyero” was so chilling and perfect.
MOTWH- The ensemble again knocked it out of the park. I was so sad that I couldn’t see Annaleigh and Miriam because Miriam sounded FIERCE especially her “Shut up” I felt so bad for Annaleigh
FG- Ahh Steph was right there when she’s looking down at Dorothy. When Stephanie first got the note about Fiyero her reaction was so heartbreaking. Annaleigh’s “let the little girl go..” line was funny as always.
Ok to the song—it was perfect. This song is so emotional for me. Stephanie and Annaleigh are so great together. When Steph sang “ Like a handprint on my heart” and put Annaleigh’s hand on her heart I lost it. I got even more shaken up when the ensemble started singing “And goodness knows the wicked’s nights are lonely” line—they sounded amazing.
Finale- Annaleigh’s “Elphie?” was heartbreaking. Steph didn’t get any crowd reaction from the audience. I was so shaken up that I couldn’t move.
SD: Lenny, David, Stephanie and Annaleigh (for part of the line) came out. Lenny didn’t sign because no one was there lol but then people started showing up. David came out and I nearly melted. When he got to me I basically said that his ALAYM was breathtaking and that somebody here and said that it was his song and it truly was. He said that it is great singing that song with Stephanie and I told him that she is basically my hero. I also told him that he was my favorite Fiyero and he thanked me for saying that to his face ( in a totally joking manner). He said that his contract is up in June and I told that that made me happy since I will be able to see him again. He asked me what my name was and told me that he’d look out for me the next time I was there. I took a pic with him but I didn’t like it so I asked him for another one and he was nothing but gracious about it.
Stephanie came out and as she made her way down the line she said to some guy that she was exhausted and wanted to make the signing short but be friendly at the same time which she was. I got a great picture with her but I forgot my cord at school so I’ll post them on Monday.
